Esophagitis is an inflammation that happens in the lining of the esophagus which is the muscular tube that delivers food from your mouth to your stomach.

It can cause painful and difficult swallowing.

Treatment for esophagitis depends on the underlying cause. If left untreated, it can cause scarring or narrowing of the esophagus.
